Muskoka Nature Walks - Volume 1 is a passionate portrayal of nature. This easy-to- read collection of 'Nature Walk' articles by Muskoka Sun columnist Marlene Walker, inspires and teaches about the natural phenomena seen in cottage country.

Overflowing with Marlene’s infectious enthusiasm, 'Muskoka Nature Walks' takes the cottager or visitor on an adventure in joy and discovery, abounding in the mysteries, secrets and wonder of the natural world at our fingertips.

Involvement and appreciation of nature is a natural antidote to our fast-paced, stressful and uncertain world. To counter this state of mind, more and more people embrace the feeling of tranquility through the rhythmic predictability of the seasons and the beauty of our flora and fauna. Muskoka’s natural treasures provide a place of peace, calm and unexpected pleasures that continually delights the senses. This book describes a love for Muskoka experienced in an intimate and personal way.

Muskoka Nature Walks - Volume 2 follows closely on the heels of Marlene’s first book published in May, 2005. Like Volume 1, this book embraces a love of nature that appeals to all of our senses while conveying a compelling natural history of one of Canada’s prime tourism havens. In addition, a selection of nature trails in Muskoka is included in this volume complete with maps, descriptions and trail ratings.

About the author

Marlene has had a passion for nature since the age of three when she discovered the beauty of bluebirds. She is a birder, nature photographer, naturalist, newspaper columnist, businesswoman, and public speaker. Marlene's desire to learn took her back to university to complete a second Master's degree, the first in Social Work, and the second in Zoology with her research focused on genetics and birdsong.
